This week’s #lifeatheathrow featured photo is courtesy of Adam Huse, a Spelthorne local and Heathrow’s Risk and Assurance Co-ordinator. Using the panoramic function on his smartphone, Adam was able to take this stunning photo showing the progress of a British Airways flight coming in to land on the northern runway (27R).
We’ve caught up with Adam to find out more about his career at Heathrow.
How long have you worked at Heathrow?
Adam: Four years in total now, though I initially began my career here as a contractor.
If you had to describe Heathrow in 3 words, what would they be?
Exciting – Interesting – Busy
What’s a day in the life of your job really like?
Generally sat at my desk or in meetings about risk registers, assurance processes and any other ad hoc bits of work. We work across the whole business though so I get to meet lots of people and see different parts of the business which is always interesting and makes the job quite varied.
What do you enjoy most about Life at Heathrow?
I like the general environment of the airport. It’s a unique place to work and there is always so much going on. Everything is also close at hand so I can generally go and see everything that I’m working on or around in action instead of just having to accept that it is just something that happens elsewhere that I’ll never see.
Favourite spot to take photos at Heathrow?
I think it’s got to be the Control Tower. Having lived in the local area for most of my life it is always fun to see places I recognise from above. The view from up there is just fantastic.
Favourite moment while working at Heathrow?
My manager and I went over to the tower for a meeting on IT systems that NATS use. After the meeting they showed us some of the gear that they use to manage the air traffic, including some of the new kit they’re developing which was just incredible!
Hobbies? What do you do in your spare time?
I seem to spend far too much of my spare time at the moment playing field Hockey or in some far flung corner of this country kayaking.
Our Social Media and Airport Communications teams are working together to co-ordinate the series and share these great Heathrow moments with the over 1 million followers across the airport’s official channels!
